How do I sort my reference list alphabetically in Microsoft Word? (APA)

Answer

To sort your reference list alphabetically in Microsoft Word:

  1. Highlight the reference list (do not highlight the whole assignment)

  2. In the Home tab, in the ‘Paragraph’ section, click on the AZ icon

  3. A pop-up box will appear, do not change anything in this box. Click ‘OK’

This feature is not currently available in some online versions of Microsoft Word. If you cannot find the AZ button on the taskbar, open your document in the app version of Word on a laptop or PC.
