Which EBSCO database should I use for my Nursing research?

Answer

It is important to select the right database (or often multiple databases) for your research. There is a lot of nuance and caveats required to properly answer this question, but the following is generally applicable:

  • CINAHL is stronger on nurse-delivered health activities, nursing-centred research and patient-focused research
  • MEDLINE is stronger on the pathology and treatment of disease, healthcare management topics and pure medical research
  • PsycINFO is stronger on mental health topics and treatment contexts
  • AMED is stronger for traditional and complementary medicine topics

These databases, along with other appropriate electronic sources for nurses, are discussed in chapter 7 of The research process for Nursing (Beecroft et. al., 2015).
