How do I get an article if I clicked on 'Get Full Text' but Locate shows a 'Record cannot be displayed' message?
Answer
This can happen when you search on databases hosted on the Ebscohost platform (e.g. Cinahl, Medline). Look for the 'Refine Results' section on the Ebscohost page and you will see 'Limit to' options for filtering your results. Tick the 'Full Text' option here and this will exclude results which only let you view abstracts etc.
N.B. Even though clicking on 'Get Full Text' in Ebsco opens Locate before you see the error message, this has not done a full Locate search. If you find a reference (on Ebsco) where you are denied access, you should do a fresh search for the article on Locate to confirm whether full text may be available to you via a different provider. Open Locate in a new tab or window, enter some of the article title keywords/ author details and remember to select 'Journal Articles' from the dropdown options as your search type.
If you get no results on Locate, this suggests the library does not subscribe to the journal in which the article appears. You can still request a copy of the article using our Document Supply Service.
