How to access and use SPSS

Answer

On Your Own Windows PC or Laptop

There are two things you need to do:

1. If you are off campus, then connect to the University’s network via the Global Protect VPN.

Digital Services have created a knowledge article that takes you through all the steps of installing

Global Protect and logging into the VPN at:

For your personal windows device:

https://help.coventry.ac.uk/portal/kb?btn=61&text=global%20protect&entity=articles&id=1246

Or for your personal mac device:

https://help.coventry.ac.uk/portal/kb?btn=61&text=global%20protect&entity=articles&id=1095

If you are on campus then you do NOT need to do the above.

2. Go to https://appsanywhere.coventry.ac.uk/

Log-in using your University ID and password.

You may be prompted to answer the following pop-up.

AppsAnywhere pop-up asking you to install it

If you have used AppsAnywhere before click on “I have it already”, or if this is the first time you have used AppsAnywhere on your own PC, you will need to click on “Install now”. This will download an installation file to your downloads folder. When that has been downloaded, locate that file, launch it, and follow the instructions (default settings) to install the AppsAnywhere client.

You may then be prompted to answer a pop-up that looks something like the following (depending on the web browser you are using), if so click on “Open AppsAnywhere Launcher”.

3. AppsAnywhere will then authenticate to check your credentials. When that has been completed search for “SPSS Statistics 28” in the apps and click on “launch”.

Troubleshooting SPSS access on a Windows PC

If the licence for SPSS does not get validated correctly when you try to start SPSS from AppsAnywhere then try the following:

i) Check you are connected to the Global Protect vpn.

ii) If you are connected, locate SPSS on the list of programs running on Cloud Paging Player:

Highlight SPSS and Select “Stop” and then “Remove”;

Go back to AppsAnywhere and launch SPSS from scratch.

If the above doesn’t resolve your issue(s) then the best thing is to book an appointment with Digital Services at: https://help.coventry.ac.uk/portal/service?btn=91&root_category=13&autolog=true&shownewticket=true&id=202

On Your Own Mac

Follow the instructions at this link to download and install the software directly on your machine: https://help.coventry.ac.uk/portal/kb?btn=61&text=spss%20mac&entity=articles&id=135

An ongoing potential problem for mac users is the operating system may be out of date and requires updating. The above link contains some information about this as well.
